After the vibrant color of autumn, winter may look a little drab. It’s a time when nature seems to go into hibernation and people seek the warmth and comfort of fireplaces and central heating. But winter is also a great opportunity to redecorate the home and turn it into something truly special and unique. It may be cold and wintery outside, but this doesn’t mean that your home needs to feel the same way.

It’s also the season of gift-giving, and with smart technology emerging in every room of your home, your home might just start humming with some new devices that will need to find some space in your design. One of them might be a Cubit!

We associate bare trees and cold weather with winter, but it’s also a time that can be really beautiful too. There’s nothing like the softness of snow in the winter time, and this also means that holidays are not far away. This means getting together with friends and family, gift giving, and good times in the home. Read on and create a winter wonderland with us this year!

Make your home a cozy retreat

It might be cold and icy weather outside, and this can be used as an opportunity to make your home into a warm and cozy retreat. People love nothing more in the winter than finding a place to relax and keep warm.

There’s a reason why Christmas Trees and poinsettias are such incredibly popular flowers during the season. Evergreen and bold, everlasting red hues sharpen vibrancy for the home during an otherwise chilly season, especially with more tones around the house.  For holidays beyond, this is the easiest way to create a much-needed pop of color.

If you’re taking the holiday to a ten but would like to do it tastefully, How about utilizing Cubit to help garnish the walls with stockings and garlands? If you’re into dressing your home for the holiday, Cubit and Plott can help you visualize your products throughout the season from the comfort of your couch, until you’re ready to use Cubit to guide them into the real world!

The first thing to really consider is the color palette around your home. Summer might be about vibrant color, but winter is about being comfortable. Why not try out warm whites, flax, and ivory for furnishing like curtains, cushions, and rugs? Speaking of which, investing in big plush cushions and furry rugs for the family areas is a great way to create a sense of warmth and comfort.

If you’re going to paint the walls, it’s wise to choose warmer colors. You might normally like a vivid or cool white for the walls for that minimal and modern look, but winter redecoration is all about creating an intimate space that is comfortable. Instead of the cool whites and cool blues, you might instead like to choose warm or soft white, and warmer blues for the home. Another additional is to add wood-framed photos, or other

Use accents wisely

If you’re updating your furnishings but you want to add a pop of color, why not find some inspiration in the holiday season? Though not everyone celebrates Christmas, there’s no reason why the festive season shouldn’t serve as inspiration.

Still, rather than add sequins and color everywhere, it’s a better idea to use these bright accents sparingly. A winter wonderland in your home is also about being judicious in your design choices and the last thing you want is for your home to look like a cluttered Santa’s grotto!

Since winter is a time for parties too, you can prepare your table for some festivities. Festive colors can be reflected in your choice of tablecloth if you’d like, or in more wooden tones. And because days are shorter during winter time, you might like to place a few nice looking candles on the table too.

Update your lighting

Speaking of lighting, this is also a great time of year to update it. The days are shorter now, you can add to the level of warmth and comfort inside your home by adding some subtle lighting options.

We have more lighting options now than ever before, with colors ranging from cool white to warm white. Choose floor lamps that provide a nice glow and always opt for warm white light options over cool white. Remember: the rule is warmer tones over cooler ones. Smart Technology Takes Over for Winter

One area that has really taken off in recent years is smart home technology, which is part of the reason why we’re here! While all of the traditional redecoration advice still stands the test of time, smart technology can also add a really unique flavor to your indoor winter wonderland. As it plays a bigger and more essential role on a daily basis, you’ll definitely want to consider how you position it within a design.

For example, some companies now make smart light bulbs that not only connect to your home network but can also be controlled from your smartphone. Some of them can even be voice activated and controlled from products like Google assistant or Amazon Echo products. With longer nights and shorter days, smart lighting can make for the ultimate game-changer. Imagine being able to program your home lighting to come on at specified times and to light up in different colors? This means that you can have the warm white you need when you’re relaxing at home, or more festive colors when you have people around for a party. This kind of smart lighting provides a wealth of great options!

A little bit of the outside

Adding some greenery around the home in the form of plants is always a good idea at any time of the year, but it can really add something special in winter time. You could go for something very different like an Olive plant or even a fig. They are hardy plants and their deep green will bring more of the outside to your home.

If you celebrate Christmas, you don’t actually need to invest in a real tree. If you’ve not had a look at all of the artificial options now available, you’re in for a nice surprise.

If you want a Christmas tree that will catch the eyes of visitors, Scandinavian trees can add a touch of sparkle without making the place look cluttered. Unlike traditional trees, Scandinavian trees are sparse and many will plug into an outlet and add a subtle warm white glow to the home. Being artificial, you also don’t need to clean up after them!

Of course holiday lights and wreaths are also a no-brainer. Take a look at some inspiration here courtesy of HGTV.

Winter is a great time to redecorate your home and perhaps even invest in some smart technology to add some flair and sparkle.
